BEGINNER

Your first time at a climbing gym

What actually happens when you walk in: waiver, shoes, the wall, and how not to spend the hour lost.

You do not need to be fit first

Bouldering gyms are built for first-timers. Wear clothes you can move in. Bring a water bottle. That is the kit list.

At the desk

You will sign a waiver, pay for a session or intro, and hire shoes if you do not own a pair. Hours and prices live on the gym’s own site — we do not invent them here. Ask where beginners start. They will point at a wall, not a lecture.

On the wall

Problems are colour-coded. Start on the biggest holds. Fall on the mats on purpose once so your brain believes them. Rest more than you think. Skin and forearms go before ego does.

Then what

If you like it, a ten-punch card or a month pass is cheaper than repeating first-visit prices. Read gym etiquette before the Friday crush. Find a hall on the gyms directory.
