Why make the trip

EICA Ratho is a destination climbing arena rather than a small city wall. The venue combines competition-standard bouldering, two dedicated bouldering rooms, lead and top-rope climbing, speed walls and a gym in the converted quarry outside Edinburgh.

First visit

First-time visitors must complete the appropriate registration for climbing or bouldering. Independent users may be asked to demonstrate competence, while novice climbers should use the venue’s instructed route into the activity. Complete forms in advance and check whether an event affects the arena timetable.

Plan the session

Ratho is west of central Edinburgh, so allow for the journey rather than treating it as a quick walk-in city session. The venue also includes a café and family facilities. Check Edinburgh Leisure for current climbing hours, prices and registration requirements before setting off.
